I am the dean of students at the school and go out into the school yard with all of the students from kindergarten to fifth grade. I stay engaged with the students playing kickball, soccer, wall ball, jumping rope and every and anything to help them enjoy the fifteen minutes they get each day to run around and be kids.
I stay with the students so I can eliminate any and all issues that would usually occur amongst students in this age group.
I try to help the students understand the meaning of team work, fair play and learning how to win and lose with sportsmanship. I have seen students start off the year not wanting certain students on their teams or throw a temper tantrum when the lose, to shaking hands and allowing everyone to participate in the games that are played in our schoolyard.
Any donation that you could help with would not only be greatly appreciated by myself and all of my students, but it will allow them to learn the meaning of game play and being a good teammate.
My Project
The balls and hula hoops will allow the students to have several different activities to get them moving around the school yard and exercising for even fifteen minutes out of the day.
So many kids don't get any exercise anymore or compete with each other unless they are playing a video game.
Learning how to be a good teammate, respectful, waiting your turn and cheering for others to be successful for a common goal.
These are all skills students will take with them both in and out of school and will help us build more productive members of our society.
