My students need science manipulatives like paint, a human x-ray set, and a skeleton model to bring the life sciences to LIFE!

My Students
As a teacher, I am lucky to serve special needs to gifted fifth grade students in Arizona. We are a Title I community, serving students who are financially struggling, but also students whose parents see our school as a real-world learning environment. The community is as diverse as the needs of our world today.
Our students engage in multidisciplinary projects in teams to collect data, synthesize, design, build and rebuild, all while learning the key learning standards for fifth grade.
I work on a team of three to develop lessons and facilitate learning for students in our STEAM Design Academy. We are teaching our students to be college and career ready, starting at preschool. We're not training them for sixth grade. We're training them for life as scholars and future professionals. We even call them scholars and professionals. The more you hear it, the more you believe it. The more you believe it, the more you believe in yourself and act the part. Passion leads to success.
My Project
I'm lucky enough to teach 5th graders about their bodies, animal bodies and the adaptations that they have to make them survive and thrive. Our school just experienced a fire and both of my life-sized models of skeletons and x-rays were compromised by asbestos leaching into the air and on every surface.
Imagine students labeling each part of a skeleton in a heated match as they compete to master the art of science together as a team.
We also engage in learning through x-ray scenarios where students must guess which part of the body is injured in another heated competition that they LOVE.
Thanks so much for making science come alive for my students. Science really is life and it's super awesome.
