My Students

My 11 and 12-year-old students are so much fun! I am privileged to teach in a mostly rural intermediate school (grades 5-6) where students are older than the littlest elementary students but younger than the teenage middle school students. With that being said, this age group is still motivated, happy, moldable, yet can also understand adult concepts.

Physical education is the only subject that makes your heart race!

In this school of high poverty, I strive to create an age and developmentally appropriate program that provides opportunities to improve social and cooperative skills while encouraging physical activity for health, enjoyment, self-expression, and confidence.

My Project

Our job is to create physically literate individuals! We want students to recognize the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction. During our Survivor Challenge Unit, students are united and work together to solve non-traditional problems. All contributions are valued, and diversity and differences, are celebrated. Some students are more stimulated though puzzles, mysteries, and scenarios. For example, getting students actively moving while completing a scavenger hunt, may spark an interest in those who don't like participating in organized sports.

Students are getting a good opportunity to learn by using their brain in real-life situations!

With our large class sizes and high energy students, much of our necessary PE supplies equipment experiences a lot of wear and tear. Items such as these team vests and hoops are essential for Survivor Challenge Unit and need to be replaced on an annual basis.
