Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom focuses on teaching the whole child. My students are hardworking, empathetic, and good critical thinkers. I strive to support students in developing to their fullest potential in all aspects of their learning. We work together as a class to celebrate each other's successes, both big and small.

My classroom consists of 30 eager to learn emergent bilingual students.

All of my students are English learners and some have recently immigrated from Mexico, Central, and South America. They have goals such as one day being teachers, scientists, and doctors. In class we recognize and discuss the steps needed to take to accomplish these goals. Almost 95% of the students at my school are identified as coming from low-income households.

My Project

The sheer look of excitement when students see visuals in color as well as have the opportunity to create their own images in color for projects makes any teacher feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Observing students engaged in small group activities with bright teacher-made resources is equally delightful. Both of these endeavors; however, require the use of a color printer. In my classroom at this moment there is now (thanks to generous donations) an amazing color printer that is ready to be used to start making more colorful and exciting activities! Before it can start getting to work, however, it requires the expensive toner for printing bold and vibrant pictures and other resources.

My classroom of English Learners benefits tremendously from having visuals to accompany newly learned vocabulary terms and differentiated small group activities.

Having a color printer can make these components come to life and bring much more color, joy, and student engagement in my classroom. This printer will be used to generate small group activities that are bright and captivating for my amazing classroom of kiddos. It will also be used to supplement vocabulary activities with colorful visuals to aid in building up students' academic language. Finally, it will be used by students to print color pictures for biography reports and projects. All students deserve a school experience in color!
