Life Essentials to Stay Healthy and Focused

My students need life essentials to get them through the winter. We need sanitizing supplies, tissues, and snacks to keep students healthy and nourished.

My Students

A healthy child is a happy child. Winter is very long in our area. Many students do not have the proper supplies to keep them healthy, warm and energized through the winter months.

I work at an inner city high public high school with approximately 1500 students in grades 9 through 12.

My school and my classes are very diverse. We have students at all academic levels including students who are National Merit Scholar Finalists as well as student who struggle with basic skills. We have students from various ethnic backgrounds, from a range of socio-economic statuses, and from various previous educational experiences. The diverse backgrounds and experiences of my students provide for amazing learning opportunities in the classroom.

My Project

Germs spread like crazy through the winter months! We have an old building with an outdated boiler system that creates uneven heat throughout the school. Students may be sweating in one room and freezing in another. Illnesses seem to spread like crazy in our building. I am asking for a supply of tissues and hand sanitizer to get us through the winter. If teachers have these resources available, students will use them and be less likely to spread their viruses. Many of our students are hungry. They qualify for free breakfasts and lunches but that is not enough to sustain them throughout the day. When many of our students leave in the afternoon they do not have access to nutritious food until they come back the next day. Having a supply of healthy snacks and light lunches on hand will enable students to get nutrition when they need it to concentrate throughout the day.

It is heartbreaking to try to teach a child who is not feeling well or is hungry.

If their basic life essentials are not met, it is hard to engage them in the classroom. My students can't afford to miss out on educational opportunities because they are sick and/or hungry. These donations will give my students the support they need so they can stay healthy and do their very best each day in class.
