Life Essentials for Low Income Students

My students need basic hygiene supplies. My school is a 100% low income school. Most of the families work pay-check to pay-check and cannot afford the basic essentials.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Nance's classroom raised $564

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are trying their best to come to school, clean and ready to learn. But most of them don't have the basics to complete this goal. Yesterday I had a girl crying because other students were making fun of her because "she smells." She called home for deodorant and was told they didn't have any.

My students are fun, loving, hard working children who just want to do their best.

When they come to school they aren't always thinking about learning. Sometimes other things are first on their minds, like do I smell okay? Does my breathe stink? Is my hair washed? All of the students at my school are low income families. Their first need is to have a house, and food. They don't understand they need to wash everyday or brush their teeth. As a sixth grade teacher, I'm trying to teach the curriculum and the basic needs of living a healthy life style. The families in my school simply cannot afford toothbrushes over food.

My Project

With these supplies my students will be able to get in the habit of healthy living and see the importance of being clean. They won't have to worry about being the smelly kid at school, or whose going to make fun of them. They can come to school with one less worry, and feel good about themselves. In turn, this will help their learning because they can focus on something positive.

This donation will improve my classroom by helping create a warm, loving community where all the students will feel safe, and welcome.

Nobody will be afraid to enter. They will know they are here to learn and have the confidence to hold their head high, and won't have to worry about getting too close to someone because they haven't been able shower for a week.
