My students need to learn about butterflies and the life cycle. What better way to learn about the life cycle then to witness it first hand as they watch caterpillars transform!
I am a Basic Skills Instructor this year where I work with various grade levels and help kids grasp concepts in small groups. My students range from six years old to nine years old. I teach in various classroom throughout the day and I want to help students grasp concepts that they are struggling to grasp in a large group setting.
My students are hard workers who may just need additional help in a small setting to grasp the concepts taught in class.
They love to learn and are enthusiastic with their successes. They are bright, kind and energetic. They love learning hands-on and discovering new things!
My Project
Can you imagine witnessing the transformation of a caterpillar in your very own classroom? Can you imagine the excitement and eagerness of students observing them each day, watching them turn into a pupa, then magically changing into a beautiful butterfly? I can just hear the excitement!
My students would love to have a butterfly house, where they can observe the life cycle taking place with their very own eyes!
By having these beautiful little creatures in our classroom, my students will no longer just read and see photographs of the life cycle, they will be able to take part in it hands on. They will help care for them by making sure they can eat and have a nice habitat, then once they have emerged, we can set them free in our very own school butterfly garden. What a wonderful memory for them! This could also spike the interest in Science. Who knows... maybe, just maybe... this lesson could create new career choices for my students once they become older!
