This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Spanish dual-language classroom. This means that half of my students come from English speaking families while the second half of the class comes from Spanish speaking families. In the classroom, we speak both languages. Half of the day is devoted to instruction in English while the other half is devoted instruction in Spanish.
Not only do Spanish speaking students work in an environment where the home language is maintained, many English students are also given this wonderful opportunity to be immersed in another powerful language.
The school is considered Title 1 and is found is an relatively low-income neighborhood.
While these statistics are theoretically nice, one thing is for sure, we are bilingual and proud!
My Project
My classroom is a Dual-Language classroom where half are Native English Speakers and the other half are Native Spanish speakers. About 1/3 of them are learning English for the first time and about another 1/3 are learning Spanish.
The Spanish/English picture dictionaries will help students particularly in their writing, when they are trying to figure out new words to fill into their sentence frames.
They are expected to shop from the library once a week, and since they get books in two languages, they get A LOT of books! We need book baggies are a sustainable and eco-friendly way to hold our books. My students were using zip lock baggies before, but they were breaking quickly!
Lastly, our classroom is need of books! Especially non-fiction texts! Please help me grow my Spanish library!
