Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

These students have good hearts and want to succeed. I began working at another similar school three years ago, and I had hoped that I could continue working at this new school in the bilingual program. The parents are very willing to volunteer and take an interest in what's going on in the classroom. This school is a Title I school and is in the middle of a neighborhood with a high rate of poverty. The majority of the school received free or reduced-fee lunches. As such, it is critical that the students have a safe, loving environment where they can learn effectively.

As a strong supporter of bilingual education, and seeing how hard these kids are working toward becoming biliterate, I want to be able to give them the high-quality education they deserve.

The majority of our students are fortunate enough to be bilingual in spoken English and Spanish. However, we continue to support the full spectrum of biliteracy as they grow in their ability to read, write, and speak in both languages fluently.

My Project

These books will help my students to gain valuable literacy skills. They are doing their best to catch up in the aftermath of the pandemic, and I want to give them every chance possible to access grade-level material. These books include high-interest topics and popular series that will be sure to pique the students' interest. Some of the books are picture books that I can use to do read-aloud with them, and some are to add to our class library for independent reading time. I know they will enjoy these books.
