Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, a significant amount of my students speak Spanish. Many of them are only comfortable reading in Spanish so far. As they develop language skills in English, I want to make sure that I am fostering a love of reading in their native language.

Reading is crucial- no matter what language it is in.

This project will help me ensure that ALL of my students have equal access to texts that they WANT to read. We have independent reading time daily for at least 15 minutes, typically more. These books will be used by students during that time. I have requested books in Spanish on a wide variety of topics and levels to make sure that each Spanish speaking student can find books that they like. I am also requesting a shelf to make me dedicate a section in our library solely to books written in Spanish to help students locate them more easily.
