This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are a diverse, enthusiastic, and driven group of 8th graders. Our school is a Title I school with over 85% of students coming from low-income families. In addition, the majority of my students are current or former English Language Learners.
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is the most popular book series in my middle school classroom, and I want to make it more accessible for my Spanish speaking English Language Learners.
In class we have free time for reading and I would like to give them the chance to choose the book they read each class. My students love to read, but as novice Spanish speakers it is difficult to find materials at their level. These novels provide engaging and comprehensible stories in my students' native language.
