My amazing 4th graders come from a variety of backgrounds, including from several Latin American countries. Ours is a Spanish dual-language immersion classroom, meaning that every student is either an English language learner or a Spanish language learner, and we honor and celebrate a variety of cultures.
My bilingual 4th grade students love reading and learning about different cultures, people and places around the world.
They are passionate about making their community a better place, from picking up litter to practicing kindness & preventing bullying.
My Project
This project funds many new books for our classroom library as well as a card for Teachers Pay Teachers, where I find great worksheets to support bilingual students in the development of their Spanish and English writing.
Adding new books to a classroom library always gives a burst of excitement and engagement to independent reading time.
Having diverse books is essential for students to both see themselves in the books they read and learn about the experience of marginalized groups. These great books are all about Black accomplishments, the history of activism, and Indigenous history, topics that my class is very excited to learn about, and which will help create more conscientious, aware, empathetic, anti-racist upstanders.
