We need an embroidery machine, extra thread and embroidery backing sheets in order to make beautiful things!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My library assistants T'Keyah, Justin and Destiny are curious, motivated honor students who are eager to implement a makerspace in the library. They are artistic, creative, and tech savvy! They want to combine creativity and technology to develop beautiful things in the library's makerspace.
My students are always eager to combine their artistic sides with their love of technology. A library makerspace is something we have discussed for a while. Another teacher at school recently received funding for an embroidery machine and this sparked my students' interest!
They are eager to kick off the library makerspace with an embroidery machine and learn how to create embellishments for t-shirts, caps and more. They want to learn a new skill that they can take with them beyond high school. They can use their creativity and artistic skills to design. They can learn to use the technology to implement their design and develop a product. Having access to hands-on materials and actually being able to create tangible items in the library will be a helpful experience that they can learn from and take with them beyond high school.
We want to learn a new skill and actually be able to make items in our Library. It's cool to learn about how things work, but we want to actually put ideas into action. We want to learn how to use a new machine. We have lots of ideas for designs for shirts and caps that we use to create things that show our school spirit. Learning these skills can benefit us for the rest of our lives. We could eventually start our own business from learning how to embroider!
We are interested in technology and feel we can learn how to use this machine. We are on the technology team at our school, and think we can not only learn how to work the machine, but teach others how to, as well. We like the idea of having a makerspace in the library. Having a place to make stuff in the library is a new idea in our district and we think it will be popular. Kids like to make stuff and this is just the beginning of all the stuff we can make!
We will not only learn a new skill, but use that skill to spread school spirit. We like to express our individuality and using the embroidery machine we can do just that. We will learn how to do things that could eventually lead to careers in design, fashion or technology. Starting a makerspace in our library will be interesting and bring even more people in to see what is going on!
