My Students
For most students, Home Economics and Automotive Shop Class are something from a bygone era. With advancements in technology and limited budgets, many districts have dropped hands-on learning classes that teach students valuable life skills and give them the training and confidence needed to enter the workforce. Makerspaces are a giving students who don't have access to these courses the opportunity to build and create anything - from an art project to a robot!
My students are curious, with a passion for creating - no child's success should be limited by their school's budget.
I manage a middle school library in a Title-1 district, serving students 6th-8th grade. Budget is the biggest obstacle standing in the way of creating a makerspace in our library. My students have expressed an interest in a variety of fields - from engineering and fashion to interior design and culinary arts. Our students deserve a space to foster their creativity.
My Project
With a library makerspace, students will have the ability to create & collaborate. Through building, designing, or simply playing a board game, students can embrace their own creativity and build social skills that will take them far in an out of the classroom setting.
With a library makerspace, student creativity is unlimited!
Our library makerspace will allow students to work on DIY projects, create art, practice building and engineering, and anything else they can imagine. Additionally, this space provides a positive extracurricular opportunity for all students, embracing varying interests and skill levels.
Some of the items needed to create this space are: Legos, 3d pens, magna-tiles, beginner microscope, rock tumbler, board games & a pencil sharpener for art projects.
