Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The best thing about my class is that there isn't a typical day. EAST (Environmental and Spatial Technology) is a project-based class that gives students the opportunity to explore something that interests them, helps the community, and uses cutting edge technology while making a difference.
One thing our EAST Program does is support numerous programs in our school, as we are at title-one school and resources can be tight.
For this project, we plan to work along side our library to create a school-wide maker space for before, during and after school use.
My Project
We live in a world reliant on innovation and creativity. We are preparing students for careers we don't even know will exist. In order to do that, we need prepare them to be self-starters, able to problem solve and think critically. Our EAST program students, used to having access to these materials within our class, will help establish the space and run classes through their peers through it.
Maker spaces have been proven to assist individuals with expanding creativity and widening interests in a variety of fields.
They also provide the materials to create innovative solutions to the world around them and figure out ways to solve problems through creating solutions.
This library maker space will provide all the needed materials for a variety of people in our school to expand their students curriculum to include "making". Many of our kiddos don't have access to these types of manipulative in their own homes and need the enrichment through school.
