This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My wonderful students come from the neighborhood around the school and are a delight to teach. We are a Title I school, and the boys and girls represent a diverse population. I love my position as the school librarian and enjoy seeing the classes once per week. I do a variety of activities with my students and always want to incorporate more. Literacy is our primary focus in the library, and students get so excited to learn new things in different and unique ways.
Library Learning Stations have just been added to our library routine.
A variety of library skills are being taught to the students during their station time. The supplies for our stations are mostly consumable. We need card-stock for our bookmark station. The students are always asking for a variety of art supplies to add to the illustration station. Each station has detailed directions in a plastic page protector. The directions for each station are always printed on bright colored paper to allow the students to easily located directions and refer back to them.
My Project
I teach kindergarten to 5th grade in a high poverty, inner-city school district. Our school has a nice library that the students love to visit. We devote time during our library visits to Library Skills Learning Stations. Each week students get to participate in a different learning station.
My students need supplies to keep these stations running smoothly.
We have seven student tables in the library and run seven different learning stations. The students are using our electronic tablets to conduct research, create illustrations, design bookmarks, and program information through coding. We need colored paper and page protectors for station directions. All of our bookmarks in our maker space station are made on card stock. The markers and flares are used in the illustration station and the maker space stations. The students are always excited when we get new supplies for our stations.
