Library Full of Music

Help me give my students more music books to read in my library center. In this center, they can practice reading different literature and learn about music all in one!

My Students

I teach music to students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade. I teach in an inner-city school where the majority of my students live in poverty and have had a lot of hardships. Despite their hardships, they enjoy learning and work hard to be successful in school.

Over the 11 years, I have taught at this school, I am constantly amazed by the talent, creativity, and passion my students show for music!

I always have high expectations for my students, and every year they meet or exceed those expectations.

My Project

In music, I have found that music stations really help my students learn music better. It gives them a hands-on approach to music where they are given the time to explore and review music concepts in different ways. One of the music stations my students explore is my music library. In this library, I have music-related books I have collected over my teaching career. In this library, I have a collection of music picture books, informational books on instruments and composers, and songbooks. Most of the books are second-hand books that have been donated or found at garage sales and have seen better days. These books are well-loved and my students enjoy reading them.

My music library station is one of my students' favorite music stations and my students would love new books to read!

In the music library station, students not only learn about different musical concepts such as instruments, composers, singing, dynamics, and sound, but they also practice different reading skills. When they read the books, they are practicing fluency, comprehension, decoding, and vocabulary. Many of them have already read all of the books in my library, so these new books would give them new material to read that I know they will love! I can't wait for them to explore a whole new world of literature with music!
