My Students

Most students in my classroom love to read, and like any human being, they want to get comfortable while doing so. The plan is that since some of don't actually like to read, it is my intention to lure them into the library nooks in my classroom with the help of comfortable seating furniture.

My students are eager learners but some do not like to read for pleasure.

Unless I am reading a story to them they do not have the intrinsic desire to read on their own; not all of them, but some of them. For those who already love to read, I intend to keep them reading by making sure that they are comfortable while doing so. I model how to sit comfortably while reading anywhere, and hope that they too will want to read if they are comfortable enough. That's my reversed psychological plan. I think it will work because I have used this practice before.

My Project

If I can get bean bag chairs in my classroom, I know that the students will be practically falling over themselves to get into one. This is going to really entice my young students to become more proficient readers because they will want to go to the library nooks in the classroom to sit on the bean bag chairs and practice their reading. This will keep them super engaged on an independent level while I am working with a small group of students.

The donations to this project will help my students to become more fluent readers with a love for reading because the classroom culture of reading will be effectively installed.

The truth is, I will be enticing the students to read by modeling how good readers can get comfortable before they start to read so that they can read for longer stretches of time, thus building a stamina for reading. With the rigorousness of the common core standards, I need to develop academically aggressive readers.
