Levitating Lemons- Learning through Experimental Analysis
My students need basic chemicals and laboratory instructional materials, which will allow them to conduct experimental analysis in their chemistry and biology labs. They need 2 packages of agarose gel, 2 sensitivity disks, 2 collision sets,1 bottle of iodine solution, 2 bottles of phenolphthalein solution, 1 mitosis/meiosis lab kit, 2 packs of litmus paper, 1 modeling kit, and two laminated periodic charts.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Jordan's classroom raised $495
This project is fully funded
Look out for your future scientists! My classroom consists of biology and chemistry students from grades 9-12, who will be conducting experimental analysis on topics uncovered in class. My school is located in a low socioeconomic area of Mississippi and struggles with providing adequate resources for its science labs.
Biology and chemistry are abstract subjects that can not be taught effectively nor mastered by students, without the basic laboratory supplies required for experimental investigation. I used Donorschoose last year to fund a dissecting lab as an end-of-the-year project for my students, and they were so ecstatic to be engaged in a real lab. From that moment forward, I vowed to make an effort to ensure that their laboratory experiences were not sacrificed because of a lack of funding to our department.
In order to have a successful laboratory setting this year, my students need laboratory materials that will allow them to collect and test bacteria, measure the properties of different solutions, observe microscopic natural processes, and construct molecular models of different structures. These resources will not only enforce the topics uncovered in class, but they will encourage them to become more analytical in their analysis as they conduct their experiments.
These activities will provide my students with prior exposure to similar laboratory situations that will be more intense and detailed upon entering college. You will ensure that my students achieve success in their current science classes and provide them with the confidence they need to succeed in future laboratory based courses.
