Leveraging Technology to Support ESOL Language and Math Skills

My Project
As a teacher of multilingual learners, I want to support my students in the learning of the English language, as well as set them up for success in their other content-area classes. Throughout this school year, I have noticed that my students are not familiar with the importance of academic vocabulary, especially in their math and ELA classes. Meaningful reading is a learned skill and one that has recently, I feel, been neglected. I have had great success working one-on-one with students to help them gain more comprehension of math and ELA vocabulary, however I want to be able to reach more students. The iPad and pencil will afford me the ability to have that one-on-one experience with the entire class at one time.
Through this technology, I will be able to mark the text and model my thinking in real time on the Promethean Board to everyone at once.
In addition, I will be able to work with small groups of students to conduct more in depth differentiated lessons using the technology. Adding technology made available through the Apple iPad and the Apple Pencil will allow my students to see first-hand how thinking about reading and math actually works and how it aids in learning the academic vocabulary. The iPad apps also allows for my lessons to be recorded and uploaded to Google Classroom. This gives students the flexibility to view these lessons at their own pace so that a deeper understanding can take place.
