My students need a large selection of picture books that will be used as jumping off points for our engineering challenges in the STEM lab! Our titles include The Drop in My Drink, The Bee Tree, When I Build with Blocks and many more.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students at our wonderful rural school come from various backgrounds, but the majority are English Language Learners. Many of our students qualify for free and reduced price lunch, making us a Title I school.
Most importantly, our school is filled with Preschool to 5th grade students who are eager to learn, and crave experiences provided in our new STEM lab.
They love engineering challenges and don't always get to work with STEM materials after leaving our school building. They are eager to explore many of the concepts covered in the science, math, engineering, and technology curriculum using hands-on materials.
My Project
Our new STEM lab is a place of excitement and curiosity! But something is missing that our students desperately need. Many of our students are learning English as their second language. Their academic and social vocabularies are just beginning to blossom.
We need a large selection of picture books that will be used as jumping off points for our engineering challenges in the STEM lab!
Our titles include The Drop in My Drink, The Bee Tree, When I Build with Blocks and many more. This project would allow us to bridge the excitement of hands-on engineering with the literacy development that comes with engaging picture books.
Your generous donation will help us purchase a collection of picture books that have been chosen due to their relation to many of the upcoming STEM challenges. The picture books will be read to, and discussed with, the students in the Launch Pad, our new STEM lab. Each of them will form a jumping-off point for a related engineering challenge.
We are hopeful that this connection between the vocabulary and literacy skills our students desperately need and the STEM challenges they absolutely love will build greater communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking!
