Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is full of twenty-three students that are excited about learning. They are very eager to acquire all the knowledge that is needed for them to be successful in first grade and to move on to second. It is my goal to do all I can to get them there.
My students attend a school that is located in an area that is struck by violence on a daily basis.
For some of my students our school is the only stability present in their lives. The staff and I at my school try to create the most safe and conducive environment possible.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are for guided reading. 95 percent of my class is reading significantly below grade level. These materials will assist me with improving their fluency and comprehension. I will meet with 4 groups daily to practice comprehension skills and to practice fluency. Meeting with them and providing leveled books will give my students a chance to improve their reading levels.
Donations to this project will give students a chance to enter the next grade at or above their expected reading level.
My students will become more confident in class, because they are reading at grade level in other content areas.
