My Project

My AP Chemistry students are curious, motivated, and determined to succeed. But in our urban school, many of them face challenges beyond the classroom—including limited access to essential academic tools like graphing calculators. Most come from low-income families who simply cannot afford this resource on their own.

Chemistry is an applied science that relies heavily on mathematical thinking—especially algebra.

While students are learning complex scientific concepts, they’re often held back by gaps in algebraic skills. A graphing calculator can be a game-changer. It allows students to visualize data, perform calculations efficiently, and better grasp the relationships between variables—all crucial skills for success in AP Chemistry.

Right now, only some of my students have access to a graphing calculator through other classes. Those who don't are at a disadvantage: they take longer to solve problems, miss out on key features, and struggle to keep up during instruction and exams. This inequity has a real impact on their performance and confidence—especially when it comes to the high-stakes AP exam.

With your support, I can provide classroom sets of graphing calculators so that every student has equal access to the tools they need. Your donation will help level the playing field and give my students the chance to focus on what really matters—understanding science, developing problem-solving skills, and unlocking their full potential.
