This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to class every day full of wonder and excitement. They are motivated students who are ready to learn. I want them to believe that they can accomplish anything even now during these precedent times. My students are creative and aspiring innovators.
I teach at a Title I school in Salinas, California where students strive every day for knowledge.
Many of my students come from farm working families who migrant to other areas following the seasonal crops. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn. They enjoy school and aspire to future success.
My Project
Students are learning about animal adaptations, problem solving through fables, weather, and communities in their district provided curriculum magazine. However, the text in their magazine is above most of my student’s reading levels. These new leveled text books will allow my students to further enrich their understanding of their grade level curriculum at their reading level. Also, these leveled readers have AR quiz numbers. My students work hard every trimester to meet their reading point, accuracy, and level goals to become Triple Crown. My students are motivated to read fiction and non-fiction genres at their reading ability. These leveled readers will be used year after year.
In addition we are going to facilitate discussions around social emotional learning.
In the classroom we discuss being mindful therefore, I have included several books to inspire young readers. Many of these books were chosen because they will help plan our return back to the classroom. These books will be used during small reading groups as well. Adding new different leveled books to our classroom library will inspire ALL of my current and future students.
