Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm trying to build readers through balanced literacy, engaging with literature is a way to instill a love of reading and learning. Indulging in books builds confidence for kids to soar.
My school is a small, Title I school where a lot of my students qualify for the reduced price or free lunch program.
Many students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Most are English language learners, speaking English as their second language. My Kindergarten students come to school daily eager to learn.
My Project
With this project, I will be creating a balanced reading program that will guide my instruction. Students will be able to participate in guided reading instruction, read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, practice word work and work on writing. I am always looking for ways to encourage and engage students. Providing books on their reading level will support their ability to learn and use resources that are appropriate for their learning needs. From learning letters, to reading words, to reading and understanding. These are the building blocks to mold fluent readers. With the Look What I Made art frames, I plan to display my students' literature responses after reading the books. Kindergarten is the most critical year in school to instill a love for books. My goal is to inspire young readers to learn more.
I have a lot of books in my classroom library but they are sorted by the topics, and they are way too hard for my students to read, except looking through the pictures.
These leveled library will boost their confidence, allowing them to actually read the words. Thank you for your donation.
