After switching to Adam Dovico's famed morning choice two years ago, it was painfully obvious that morning choice benefits way more than morning work. I saw a quick change in the way students entered the room and got to work. I now want to extend my classroom benefits to other students throughout our K-5 school that's as diverse as any school in Indiana!
The most popular choice among my students when it comes to morning choice is board games.
I myself have seen the exceptional benefits of board games in the classroom. Students learn skills in a multitude of fields such as math, coding, and history. Most importantly though, they learn to collaborate and cooperate with each other which leads to major gains in the classroom.
The items chosen for this Donors Choose project will help my students come to school excited and ready to tackle the day. Not only will these items be used in my classroom's morning choice routine, but will also be used in after school clubs and even family nights! This project has the potential to reach 800+ students in our economically disadvantaged community!
Since using board games as a means of teaching, I have seen collaboration skyrocket!
That collaboration as led to an overall better all around classroom. Collaboration is a skill that most employers want in an employee, but can't seem to find. Having students play board games with each other starts those collaboration skills at an early age.
