My Project
My students are curious, creative middle schoolers in a rural, economically disadvantaged area in Mississippi. Many face challenges outside the classroom, but inside, they are eager to learn, collaborate, and explore the world of technology. I teach Computer Science, and I strive to make lessons engaging and relevant to their future careers—especially in technology, gaming, and digital creativity.
My Project:
I’m requesting Nintendo Switch consoles to enhance our Computer Science classroom in two exciting ways:
Esports Club & Coding Connections: Students will explore the structure, teamwork, and strategy of esports, while also learning the computer science behind game design, networking, and digital citizenship.
Incentives for Positive Behavior and Academic Growth: The Switches will also be used as part of a classroom reward system, motivating students to meet academic and behavior goals.
Why This Matters:
Esports is more than just gaming—it's a growing field with career pathways in computer science, IT, broadcasting, game development, and more. By connecting gaming to STEM, I can keep students engaged while teaching valuable lessons in technology, ethics, and digital responsibility.
Additionally, students who demonstrate hard work and improvement will earn Switch time as an incentive—something that is both meaningful and effective in our community.
