Help me give my students the maps, sourcebooks, campaigns, and terrain to bring Dungeons and Dragons to life for our new and past members.

My Students

My students are 7-12th graders who are attending a large, urban high school that services grades 7-12. They have a very rigorous day at our school--moving from class to class. Our school is the most diverse school in the city and often listed as the most diverse school in our state. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, ethnically, in terms of spiritual beliefs, race, previous school experience, and even socioeconomic background. Our students seek admission to our public school and come from all over the city in order to attend. They also have a variety of learning styles. Each year, we have more and more students with learning disabilities

Dungeons and Dragons revolves around working in a team; in order to proceed with the game, participants must work together.

Moreover, the challenges presented in the game give students the opportunity to engage in creative problem-solving, and students must apply logic and forward-thinking in order to effectively implement their strategy (skills immensely useful in math, for example). The social-emotional benefits of the game is one of the biggest reason for doing this advisory. I want students to put down the phones and interact.

My Project

The materials I am requesting this year will help meet the needs of our growing club. Our school has changed its schedule to add both a support period and an activity period during the school day each week. Many students have not been in a classroom for almost a year and a half and our school created these periods to help our students.

The new materials like the starter kits, maps, sourcebooks, and miniatures will allow us to teach more players about the game and run more campaigns for the increased number of students who signed up for Dungeons and Dragons this year.

I am super excited about our Dungeons and Dragons club. Dungeons and Dragons club can help support those students who lost out interacting with their peers during the early part of the pandemic. Dungeons and Dragons Club can be the place where students come to laugh, adventure, and roleplay and begin to feel a sense of community they have missed out on because of the pandemic.
