it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My players work hard from the depths of winter workouts in January to the hot end of season tournaments in June. This project will level the playing field so my players can practice under regulation conditions to prepare to play against the best teams in the country, and win.
We started our team in Chicago three years ago.
We are a small, urban public school with just about 800 students, and none of our students had picked up a Frisbee before; we lost a lot our first year. But, our team had heart, dedication, and an unbeatable work ethic and so we built a program.
We play against very well-funded private schools, upper-income suburban schools and elite selective public schools. And we win. For the past two seasons, we have come in 2nd place in the Chicago league and have placed well at Illinois state championships and national tournaments.
We had more than 35 students involved in the program last year and hope to expand even further this year to three teams with varsity, JV and women's. This project will benefit all of those players.
My Project
I am requesting 1 lined regulation ultimate Frisbee field so we can play against the best high school teams in the country. This portable field system is non-permanent and reusable and will be perfect for the public Chicago parks where we practice. We will be able to simulate the regulation conditions at top national tournaments as well as use the field to amp up the level of competition at league games.
So often when our team steps on the field, they are discounted or underestimated.
What is ultimate Frisbee doing in west Chicago? Surely they are playing just to participate. Nothing could be further form the truth. My players work hard to compete against the best in the game and they play to win. Help them get there.
