This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Creative, Hard-working, Motivated, Curious, and future innovators - These are words and phrases that I would use to describe my middle school students. As an educator at a low income, mainly minority, urban school, my students demonstrate perseverance by overcoming the obstacles they are faced with everyday, which, as a young adolescent, is never easy.

I believe in the importance of a caring classroom environment where authentic learning is supported and encouraged.

My goal as a teacher is to be able to reach my students by using different teaching strategies so that each student can learn the skills necessary to be successful, both in and out of the classroom. Teaching math gives me an opportunity to teach real-life problem solving skills and the ability to see those "a-ha" moments when my students understand and relate a core concept.

My Project

Our school's yearbook club is dedicated in promoting skills that are enhanced through technology, art, science, math, and ELA. Our main output is our school's yearbook which documents many memories of our school's students experience. Inspired by the artwork of the IF/THEN Collection, I am hoping that the materials for this project continue supporting or students' imagination and creativity.

The purpose of this project is to give our students another opportunity to exercise their creative muscles.

Within our yearbook club, are several teams that include photographers, designers, writers, and marketers. Careers that are enhanced by extracurricular clubs like this and can lead our students towards a path of the many careers highlighted in the If/Then Collection.

Our STEAM yearbook club has allowed students to explore, experiment, learn, and practice skills every week. Our students learn a lot of how and why and are supported by many members of our community. We have been able to introduce our students to careers that involve STEAM skills. Since we will be going to a hybrid model, I want to use the If/Then collection to encourage our staffers to find connections in their interests and careers.
