My students need Spanish/English alphabet books, tracing letters, an activity box, and picture cards to reinforce letter and sound recognition as they embark on their lifelong journey of literacy.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When children can identify letters, and make letter and sound connections, it puts them on strong path to achieving literacy.

We are a preschool classroom in Illinois that serves 40 children each school year.

Our children are very curious about the world around them. We participate in reading and writing activities daily within our classroom. Thier faces light up when they realize that they have learned a letter and its sound and can apply their knowledge. For example, That's a T. A t says ttt, like in my name, Tracey. It is so exciting to be a witness to the a-ha moments.

My Project

Our classroom would tremendously benefit from these literacy materials. They will have access to learning letters and their sounds throughout the classroom in English and Spanish. Just imagine the power you could put into the children's hands by providing them with the materials to explore letters and sounds through direct instruction and independent exploration.

Through your generosity, children will have the resources in their classroom, at their fingertips, in all learning centers, to explore letters and their sounds.

Their experiences will be even greater because they will have these opportunities in two languages. Most importantly, they will be on a path to life long literacy.
