I have a very diverse group of learners with many whom are learning a second (or third, fourth) language. All of my students arrive to Kindergarten eager to learn yet many are behind in academic skills. It is because of this that everything I do as a teacher needs to be powerful and purposeful so that my students can succeed in school. With meaningful learning tools and strong instruction, all of our students can learn and be successful in school.
My Project
The hands-on literacy tools will help kindergarten students at a variety of learning levels to learn letter names, match letters, letter sounds, blending words, beginning sounds, rhyming, and sight words. We have students who enter our classroom already reading and need to be challenged by building their sight word vocabulary and we have student who know only 2 letters who need lots of repetition in order to master all 26 letters.
These games, puzzles, and matching materials will help our students expand their literacy skills at reading center time and keep them engaged so teachers are available to meet with small groups for guided reading time.
These hands-on literacy center games will compliment the teaching that occurs throughout the school day and will give students extra opportunities to practice their letters, sounds, and word knowledge.
