My Project

Students who receive occupational therapy (OT) express and share their interests during their OT services. Students have shown significant interest in superheroes, movie or TV show characters, and cartoons from their favorite video games. Interestingly, in recent years I've seen many students for whom letters, numbers and shapes are the "characters" they love most! (This makes it especially interesting that letters and numbers are technically called "characters", as well!)

These trends in student interest have inspired me to provide more educationally relevant activities revolving around the letters, numbers, and shapes that are the foundation for accessing their learning.

"Back to the basics" has been a transformative approach within our OT, helping students achieve their most essential school occupational goals through literacy activities that also challenge their fine-motor and visual-motor skills.

In this project, I am seeking games that incorporate the alphabet, shapes, and numbers which make students successful within their educational environment. These multi-purpose sets will be utilized to complete their worksheets and class assignments, in a fun way that allows them to acquire and retain the information most effectively.
