Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi! We are co-teachers from a low income/high poverty school district. Many of our students are raised in single parent households and receive free lunches based off of their socio-economic standing. Our students face hardships everyday, we have students who have lost everything from their homes in PR, were uprooted to a place that is very new, where they do not understand the English language, yet they still come to school with huge smiles on their face and are eager to start a new day.
Our 1st graders are naturally curious and energetic who seek out lots of positive reinforcement and attention.
They enjoy reading books, working on crafts and going on trips to a playground. We are an ICT classroom so we have students who need a lot more extra support learning, students who struggle with the English language, and students who just need that extra push to get them over the benchmarks.
My Project
Technology is another medium through which students can learn by doing and learn how to be competent in today's technical world.
Amazon Fire will provide accessibility, differentiated online instruction, and engagement for all types of learners in reading and math.
We plan to utilize the tablets in the most effective way, students will using during both literacy and math rotations using apps that are differentiated for each student depending on what they need help and support with. Our friends who do not know letters and sounds will have an app that they can listen to the sounds, while we have students with us learning to read in guided reading groups.
