My Students

My Kindergarten class is in Northeast Florida in a rapidly growing county. I have 18 children in an inclusion class that works closely with the special education teacher. The children, who are 5 and 6 years old, are developing a true love of learning. They are very excited to learn as much as possible through lots of hands-on activities. A most important part of our activities involves developing our sharing skills. The materials donated through this project will be used to help reach our language arts, writing, math, and technology goals.

My Project

Kindergarten children need to be able to recognize the beginning sounds of words, both written and oral. Learning these skills through worksheets is boring and often ineffective. The most effective way to help children learn is by putting their hands on actual materials and manipulatives.

The Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs will provide a fun, exciting way to sort items by their beginning sounds.

Instead of gluing down pictures, they will have their hands on concrete items that can be sorted into the proper letter tub.

My vision also includes using some of these items to sort by ending and medial vowel sounds. This will give us even more opportunities to explore letter sounds.
