it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergarten students are champions on many levels and impressively so during online distance learning. They persevere, do their best, and take pride in their education. Some from low income, first-generation proud immigrant families. With Covid 19 and distance learning, important learning tools are more critical than ever.
Access to learning tools and manipulatives is harder than ever now that we are in distance learning.
My Project
Children learn best by touching and moving. My kindergarten students will each get their own set of cardboard letter tiles to use at home during online learning and independent practice. These tile manipulatives will help students practice cvc words, sounds, and rhyming words to build the strong phonemic awareness needed for reading. Manilulatives like these help to bring learning to life. Having their own set of letter tiles at home empowers students to take ownership of their learning and the tiles can be used long past kindergarten into first grade.
