Let's Write Right

Help me give my students opportunities to develop their gross and fine motor muscles. The stand up magnetic write and wipe center will help to develop eye-hand coordination by providing a vertical writing surface for developing writers.

My Students

My classroom is very diverse. In addition to having a range of abilities, many families are new to the United States (Laos, Burma, Sudan, Mexico) and are beginning to learn the English Language. Through sensory play, social interaction with peers, and hands-on learning opportunities I am thrilled to see how their speaking, listening and vocabulary abilities develop. I am always looking for new and fun ways to encourage speaking and listening in my classroom and am always amazed at the wonderful progress my students make.

My Project

Writing in young children develops gradually in specific stages. Providing my students with opportunities to develop their fine and gross motor muscles, eye-hand coordination and beginning writing skills helps to set the foundation for their emerging skills.

The requested materials will not only engage students in their learning, but are developmentally appropriate.

Before children begin to write, they need to practice skills such as pinching or grasping for gumballs, holding a pencil correctly on the magic board, twisting nuts and bolts, or seeing their picture with their name on a magnetic writing board which will allow them to write the names of their classmates.
