My Students

The students at my school have only been exposed to the same basic sports, football and basketball. As the new P.E. teacher I want to be able to give them a new and challenging experience. I also want to open their minds to something new.

Even though the students of my school are typically of lower socio-economic status, they excel in the classroom.

The students are very respectful and display an outstanding attitude for trying new things. The students at this school need to be exposed to different sports than they are accustomed to. Not all of the students are football or basketball players, but there are some very athletic children.

My Project

I believe that by exposing the children to different sports, I am giving them added choices in life. As a culture that typically only recognizes football or basketball players, I want to open the students up to something new. Badminton also forces the students to develop hand eye coordination that can help them in other sports such as baseball or tennis. The light weight of the badminton racquet is also good for the younger children that don't have the strength to hold a tennis racquet. My goal as a P.E. teacher is to introduce children to various activities that they could develop and use for life long fitness. If I can get kids to put down the X-box joystick in favor of a badminton racquet, I have been successful.

Because of the current economic situation, there has been a spending freeze amongst the city schools. This means that I cannot order any new equipment. Currently we have only three badminton racquets and your donations will put a racquet in every childs hand, thus maximizing their participation.
