Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project combines STEM with language arts, as my middle school Spanish students design and build a fictional world for a character they create. Working in teams, students will blend storytelling with hands-on building, enhancing their skills in both fields.
Project Plan: The project includes three stages:
Planning and Design: Students collaborate in small groups to imagine their character’s “home world.” Using this MacBook laptop, they map out the landscape, structures, and cultural elements, ensuring their world aligns with the character’s story.
Building the World: With materials like clay, cardboard, and paint, students construct a 3D model. This phase introduces them to basic engineering concepts as they bring their worlds to life through design and creativity.
Writing the Story: After building, students draft a narrative in English or Spanish, introducing the character, environment, and culture of their world. Each group uses a laptop to write and revise their story.
Impact: This project fosters creativity, collaboration, and language development. Students gain hands-on experience with STEM concepts and practice storytelling in both Spanish and English, deepening their learning and language skills.
