My students need access to literacy materials to recreate their favorite stories like the Three Little Pigs, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
I work at a school where 61% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. My class is an integrated prekindergarten room, which consists of students aged 3 to 5 years old. The class consists of 30% students who have Individualized Education Plans. The students are learning through investigation, exploration, and building their curiosity through a science based curriculum every day. Their success is vibrant through their dedication, perseverance, and above all their smiles through the numerous unit-learning projects we have completed. Some ending projects include, creating a “save the millipedes” video that was broadcast on our daily news to the whole school, to working with Scholastic Books to publish a book about “Building Around the World.” My ultimate goal is to build every students’ love for learning, and to keep enriching my students’ lives to help assist them in building the best educational foundation I can.
My Project
My prekindergarten students are in love with books and reenacting stories. Literature is such a huge component of our daily whole group activities, and the students have shown a love for our literacy center during their choice center time. Only problem is their love has out grown the literacy materials we have available in the classroom.
We could really use the help in our classroom to build a more enriching literacy center to support the students recreation of their favorite stories.
Using the materials like The Three Little Pigs Storytelling Puppet Set, The Three Billy Goats Gruff Storytelling Puppet Set, and Activity Tree for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom students can experience literacy in a whole new way. We are trying to build students who love literature to create successful lifelong learners.
