Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
COVID-19 and the pandemic are showing effects in classrooms across the country. One of the biggest impacts we see in early childhood is in the category of speech and language.
My goal with the resources I have requested is to provide opportunities for students to practice conversations and skills such as vocabulary while they are gaining academic knowledge through purposeful play.
As our Pre-K friends build together with soft and quiet building blocks and porcupine blocks, they will communicate their plans through speaking to one another. They will ask questions and answer each other, getting better at the art of verbal exchange.
As they "cook" together in the dramatic play kitchen, they will create narratives and pretend with each other using the Food Baskets. Ar tables they will work together discussing how they come up with their answers in the different provided centers such as the Alphabet Zoo and counting boxes to name a few.
Being in our homes quarantined during COVID, really limited the access to others. In the crucial time for developing speech and language, my upcoming students did not receive the typical upbringing most had before the pandemic.
By practicing each day with these resources, I feel confident my students will be prepared for reading and writing, as well as perfecting math skills.
