My Students
I teach 4th grade language arts in the most diverse neighborhood in Chicago. Many of my scholars are English language learners, and over 40 languages are spoken at my school! It truly is a melting pot!
Even though we are located on the far north side of the city, these students aren't immune to the struggles many of our city's children face.
A large number of my students, 88 percent, are low-income. We also have a large percentage of diverse learners.
My Project
We've been working hard in fourth grade this year to have conversations and discussions about the books we are reading, growing interpretations and backing them up with evidence. My students love digging in and discussing theme, historical connections, characters, and more.
However, in order to launch our last unit, historical fiction book clubs, we desperately need texts that are a good fit for the wide variety of reading abilities in our diverse classroom.
Your generous donation will ensure that there is a good-fit book in the hands of every child in my high-needs classroom. Having books at their level will help them have interpretive discussions in small book clubs.
