Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our community school we are a diverse group of students and staff. We embrace what makes each person unique and strive to learn about one another's cultures and backgrounds. We have students that have come from Africa, and others who came from Latin America, along with many who were born in the United States. Being 80% low income limits the life experience of many of our learners. Additionally, virtual learning during the pandemic took away opportunities for real life learning and discussions with teachers and classmates.

Learning about important times in history is important to us, and we are striving to make sure that all students know what Juneteenth is and why it is a celebration.

We want students to see the contributions of African Americans in history and will use the various books for a schoolwide Great African American History read aloud day in the month of February, as well as a Great Juneteenth read aloud day in June.
