Help me give my students this third commercial grade preschool sized picnic table to match the others and give ample space for all students and teachers to sit outdoors at one time for meals and projects.
The children this project directly benefits are 3-5 years of age and are part of the H.T. Preschool Program. The project is also accessible to the surrounding neighborhood and community of R.M. Elementary in CO.
My preschool students and community need an appropriately sized picnic table with benches (yes, another!) for outdoor meals and activities.
The preschool team has been proactive in meeting and exceeding the Colorado Shines initiative for excellent preschool programs in which looks at all aspects of service offered. We are in need of a child sized commercial grade, durable, metal, picnic table to promote more time outdoors. This addition will help us to meet these requirements and reflect our high quality program.
This new child sized picnic will be for the whole school to use and take advantage of. A small and safe free standing table with benches can be added to the playground while not disturbing the original building and codes. This will help the program meet the needs of our class and community as well as reaching our goals towards an exemplary rating in health and care of the young.
My Project
This new preschool sized picnic table with benches will create a clean, and safe space outside for preschoolers to experience and manipulate materials using both fine and gross motor skills. An outdoor picnic table will encourage eating lunch while observing the world around us. This will help the program meet the needs of our class and community as well as reaching our goals towards an exemplary rating in our outdoor spaces for the young.
Eating meals together has proven to support relationships, social emotional needs, communication skills, and even healthier nutrition choices.
A picnic table will give teachers and parents the opportunity to bond with children through conversation, face to face. Table talk is important for establishing eye contact, positive psychological benefits, and helping keep obesity rates down. Research shows children who sit and eat with peers, family, and caregivers have better academic performance, and a better well-being.
This request is for a third picnic table to accommodate our entire preschool class as well as the teachers to sit down all at once. This table matches the others that are currently in place and do not require a permanent installation. We have noticed more independence, social interactions, and nutritional awareness by sharing this table space so far and look forward to seeing more of what it has to offer our children!
