Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our Explorers are upward bound learners who come from diverse learning backgrounds. Our classroom is based in a Title I school located in an under-served community in the heart of South Los Angeles. Most of our student population comes from a low socioeconomic background.
Despite their socioeconomic challenges, my students are always motivated to learn because of their desire to succeed.
These enthused learners enjoy working in small learning groups who learn best when they are given the opportunity to share and build on each others' knowledge and ideas. Working cooperatively continues to be their gateway to success.
Most of their success is a result of enrichment activities in which they are able to practice their communication skills. Because my classroom is mainly populated by English Learners, language enrichment is a high priority. Along with these enrichment activities, my learners enjoy friendly math challenges, team building activities and competitive sports.
My Project
Distance learning during a worldwide health crisis has presented underprivileged communities with various challenges. One challenge being, educational equity. In the traditional classroom, we can minimize distractions and keep our students focused on instruction by providing them with a quiet space for them to learn. Sadly, not all families have the freedom to designate an area free from distractions and environmental noises.
My students deserve a quiet learning setting with minimal distractions while learning remotely.
They need headsets that will permit them to fully engage in their learning. These headphones will allow my students to participate in our virtual class activities and discussions without having to select unmute. They will also be able to listen to daily instruction, complete homework assignments, listen to reading and watch pre-recorded lessons.
