it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Science should be fun, but it's hard to have fun without the right scientific equipment to ignite students' curiosity in the micro organisms of our world.
The students in my inner-city 6th grade classroom are so excited for this year to start.
It is their last year in elementary school, and they are ready to get the year started right. They are fun and energetic and can't wait for Science. Many of these students come from hard backgrounds but have such a zest for learning that I want to get them the supplies they need to succeed!
My Project
Science is not a subject that can be learned properly through words, it needs to be experienced through hands on learning activities. With these resources my students will be able to experience micro organisms in a very real way. They will be able to get excited about science now, not when they reach junior high and high school. By making science fun, my students may realize what they have the potential to do when they grow up!
Because I work in a lower income inner city school, I feel like the resources I need for my students aren't easily accessible.
We focus on Math and Reading, but Science isn't given as big of a emphasis resource wise. I have requested microscopes and a few sets of slides to help enhance our microorganisms unit. I know that creating a love for science needs to start now, and with these resources I will be able to do that!
