Let's Stay Hydrated Without Generating More Plastic!
My students need books, videos and headphones to learn more about water bottle issues. They need markers, clipboards, gloves and filters to collect and tally data.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I thought I was environmentally friendly and understood about the consequences of drinking bottled water. Now I have learned more and am trying to spread the information to my students and have them help spread the word to our school and our community.
My students are from low income households where every dime counts.
Most get free lunch and have the choice of milk or bottled water. These high school students are the voters and the voice of our future. If they can learn to protect our environment in a few different ways during their final days of public education, they will be able to help their families spend their money more wisely and use their free lunch to get nutrition instead of a throw away a plastic water bottle. I am hopeful that they will be able to spread the word to the other students in our school, their families and our community so that we can choose fresh tap water instead of producing more garbage in the form of disposable, individual plastic water bottles.
My Project
I am requesting materials to use with all of our students in our high school as well as the elementary school on our campus. We will be creating posters for the school about tap water versus individually bottled water. The high school students will be educating their peers and the elementary students in wise water use and consumption and why using bottled water is detrimental to our rivers, streams, oceans and ground water. We will be coordinating a recycling and garbage pick up program to decrease what goes in the landfill and what flows into the creeks and ocean surrounding our school.
Students will develop presentations for high school and elementary aged students using the videos, headphones, clipboards and art supplies. The water filter refills will help encourage use of tap water for drinking instead of spending money on less healthy bottled water.
Our oceans and streams are being polluted.
Our groundwater is being depleted by drought and water waste and overuse. Students of today need to learn how to be stewards to the only planet we have to live on. If each student learns and shares what they know with two people, there will be a huge increase in the longevity of our planet and natural resources.
