Help me give my students materials to use during the colder months for indoor recess when we will go outside as often as we can but still need to plan to have activities for inside.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a low-income urban school in an inclusion classroom where all the students qualify for free meals. My students come from diverse backgrounds making this class a wonderful celebration of the community. My students are curious, energetic, playful, and full of excitement when learning new things. They love hands-on activities, especially ones that involve arts and crafts, science experiments, and engineering projects.
My Project
Keeping children active can be as important to their learning as academic instruction. With some children in my class needing physical and occupational therapy, we want Stepping Buckets Balance Builders and other items to build their strength, balance, and confidence in fun and active ways. The materials in this project can help with these goals.
Also in this project are some materials to make playdough using culinary cream of tartar and food coloring which is something we use often in our preschool classroom.
Children love to use playdough in dramatic play scenarios, making pizza, muffins, and cookies. It's a wonderful sensory material that also encourages language development as children make bids to one another as they play.
In addition, my class is at school for a long day. We have before school and after school care. They need snacks in the mid-afternoon and so, Cheerios are a simple, delicious snack that all my students enjoy.
