My motivated, energetic and creative 5th graders love to use a variety of digital platforms while we've been out during the COVID-19 pandemic. As an 18 year educator working from home I had to pull some tricks out of my sleeves to keep my students motivated and engaged. I continuously stay connected with my 5th graders along with parents to provided continued learning within the comforts of their homes. Therefore, I use digital platforms such as Zoom to stay connected on a daily basis for online learning, Google Classroom to post assignments, Nearpod to keep students motivated and engaged in their learning, Padlet to provide opportunities to respond to me as well as their peers and my favorite Classcraft which allows them to rigorously complete assignments through virtual gaming while earning reward points and gold pieces.
My Project
The iPad that I am requesting will be used to remain connected with my 5th graders using the mentioned digital platforms already established. The current laptop that I'm using starts to shuts off and freezes during the middle of my Zoom sessions and I often have to use my phone to stay connected. I've tried to troubleshoot the issues I'm having with my laptop but it continues to give me a tremendous amount of problems. I've had my laptop for over twelve years and it has been a reliable device until now. I would like to continue with the routines that I've established with virtual/distant learning and continue to use the array of digital platforms established. If I receive funding for the Apple iPad I will also be able to teach in the summer distant learning program with 4th grade.
