Let's Stay Active in Our Special Education Classroom!

Help me give my students the opportunity to stay healthy and learn the skills necessary to participate in team sports. The Nintendo Switch offers an interactive platform for students to practice skills in a classroom environment.

My Project

My students are part of a new program in my school for students with multiple disabilities. My class has a specific focus on daily living skills along with their individualized academic components. My students also have dietary limitations and sensory needs that prevent them from participating in many recreational activities. The requested Nintendo Switch and games will allow my students to build skills necessary for real-world inclusion along with helping them achieve fitness goals all in our classroom. My students are also very motivated by music and the Just Dance game can be used to meet fitness goals and for a class reward for meeting academic and behavioral goals.

Throughout our school day, my students require breaks in academics and opportunities for structured physical activity.

We make our best efforts to utilize outside spaces around the school, however, being in the Northeast, the weather does not always permit it. The Switch will allow us to complete our daily physical activities inside the classroom using our SMART board. The interactive component allows for more than one student to play which helps build turn-taking and team-building skills along with the physical component. Having an array of sports to choose from without needing a lot of equipment will also provide exposure to activities that they would not normally be involved in.
